Fineland Heshan Community Center recreation

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2020

Within the spatial grammar of contemporary wellness architecture, studio revo and fineland architecture's Recreation operates as a meditation on dualities resolved through design: the cool rationality of minimal geometric volumes harmonized with the organic warmth of spherical sculptural light; the transparency of extensive glazing balanced against the protective enclosure of the arcade colonnade; the horizontal datum of still water meeting the vertical aspiration of generous ceiling height. The twin illuminated spheres function as powerful archetypal presences, their circular perfection and warm radiance evoking lunar or solar bodies, introducing cosmic scale into the intimate human ritual of bathing and establishing the pool chamber as a threshold between earthly recreation and celestial contemplation. Water itself carries profound symbolic weight across cultures as element of purification, regeneration, and psychological depth, while its mirror-like stillness here amplifies these associations by creating a doubled world that suggests realms above and below the surface of ordinary perception. The arched openings reference classical architectural heritage, encoding cultural continuity and institutional permanence while their repetitive rhythm establishes processional implications suggesting ritual passage rather than mere functional circulation. The chromatic opposition between cool aqueous greens and warm amber creates a temperature dialectic that maps onto fundamental human experiences of shade and sun, rest and energy, contemplation and vitality. The solitary figure traversing the space introduces human scale and temporal movement into otherwise static perfection, perhaps representing the individual journey through spaces designed for collective wellbeing. White surfaces throughout speak to aspirations of purity and clarity, while the minimal ornamental vocabulary suggests contemporary values of authenticity and material honesty elevated to aesthetic principle.

The project attempts to fuse notable elements from Chinese traditions with modern beauty-appreciation and lifestyle, in a relatively eclectic way. Combining three or more functional sections into a space becomes a kind of trends in China and many other countries, due to customer experience and management operation. The club, swimming pool and restaurant were given three different elements to stand out from each other.
