Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
Yang Bangsheng's hospitality interior operates as a sophisticated orchestration of symbolic and experiential codes that communicate luxury, transformation, and sanctuary through carefully calibrated material and spatial choices. The hammered metallic ceiling functions as a contemporary interpretation of the celestial canopy archetype, a protective overhead realm traditionally associated with divine shelter, cosmic order, and the transformation of mundane space into sacred precinct, here translated through industrial materials into a secular vocabulary of aesthetic transcendence. The rose-gold and copper chromatic register carries associations of warmth, wealth, and preciousness across numerous cultural traditions, while the water-ripple surface treatment may evoke associations with flowing prosperity, adaptability, and the continuous movement of life force or chi within traditional geomantic thinking. The cylindrical columns wrapped in identical metallic material function as axis mundi references, vertical elements connecting earthly and celestial registers, here establishing continuity between the grounded human realm of seating and the elevated shimmer of the overhead installation. The circular floor configurations encoded through the round rugs and curved seating arrangements suggest wholeness, completion, and non-hierarchical gathering, creating democratic social geometries within the larger hierarchical relationship between ceiling spectacle and floor habitation. The crimson accent cushions carry deep symbolic freight as markers of vitality, celebration, and auspiciousness, their strategic placement functioning as acupuncture points of chromatic energy within the otherwise neutral palette. The reflective black floor introduces a doubling effect that may reference traditional garden design principles of borrowed scenery and reflection pools, extending space beyond its physical boundaries into mirrored infinities. The overall spatial narrative constructs a journey of entrance and discovery, inviting visitors to pass through ordinary space into an extraordinary realm where material innovation creates conditions for wonder and aesthetic elevation.
The Qinhuai River, an epitome of the history and culture of Nanjing, is extracted as the design theme. Ancient Chinese scholars' stories that ever happened along the riverside are translated into decoration elements via modern design approaches so that the glamour of history collides yet mixes with today's fashion and vitality in the space. In this way, a unique living experience with a taste of both elegance and vogue is delivered to guests to redefine top-class luxurious and trendy lifestyle.
