Fireplace Valley Sales Center

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

Zhou Jing's Fireplace Valley Sales Center operates as a sophisticated spatial narrative encoding fundamental human archetypes through architectural and material choices that speak to collective unconscious desires for shelter, warmth, and communion with nature. The central fire pit functions as the primordial hearth, an ancient symbol appearing across virtually all human cultures as the gathering point for community, storytelling, and transformation, here rendered in contemporary form while retaining its essential symbolic power as the axis mundi around which domestic life organizes itself. The pitched ceiling configuration references archetypal shelter forms, the tent, the gable, the primitive hut, creating what phenomenologists of architecture describe as the essential gesture of dwelling, a protective canopy that distinguishes sacred interior from profane exterior while the expansive glazing paradoxically dissolves this boundary, suggesting a reconciliation of opposites between human artifice and natural world. The material palette encodes a hierarchy of elemental references: wood paneling evokes forest and growth, stone flooring grounds occupants in earth and permanence, glass represents air and transparency of intention, while the living flame introduces the transformative fourth element. The woven rattan furniture forms, particularly the egg-shaped chairs, carry embryonic and protective symbolism, their embracing curves suggesting return to origin and primal comfort. The tripartite spatial organization with its stepped ascent from fire pit through seating platforms toward the luminous landscape beyond may be read as a processional journey from the intimate domestic realm toward expanded consciousness and natural communion. The symmetrical arrangement speaks to classical ideals of balance and harmony, while organic furniture forms introduce the asymmetries and irregularities of natural growth. Color temperatures progress from the warm amber flames through neutral middle tones to the cool greens of the exterior landscape, encoding a thermal and emotional journey from interior warmth to expansive natural contemplation.

The best way to appreciate beauty of Guilin is to take a bamboo raft and gently row in the aesthetic, poetic realm. Against the creamy-white marble background at the entrance to the Sales Center, a half-arc, purple landscape marble emulates form of a small boat in a skillful way as if a fishing boat slowly approaches in the misty spray under a peak. The Negotiation Area features sinking couches where customers can sit around. With an atomized fireplace embedded on ground as the center.
