Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2021

Architectural symbolism embedded within FTA Group's Tianjin Zarsion Exhibition Center operates through sophisticated formal vocabulary establishing meaning through spatial gesture and material expression, the sweeping curvilinear roof form evokes archetypal shelter imagery while transcending mere functional protection to become expressive sculptural statement, this descending arc carries resonances of natural forms including hillsides, waves, and wings, suggesting organic integration with earth and sky, the continuous curve may symbolically represent flow, continuity, and the cyclical nature of time and experience, standing seam metal cladding with its rhythmic parallel striations creates visual texture evoking natural patterns found in feathers, leaves, and geological formations, reinforcing biophilic associations that connect built form to natural world, the extensive glazing establishes transparency as core value, potentially symbolizing openness, accessibility, and the dissolution of barriers between interior programmatic functions and surrounding community, warm amber interior illumination visible through glass operates as beacon and invitation, symbolically representing knowledge, welcome, and human presence within architectural shelter, the contrast between warm interior glow and cool twilight exterior establishes complementary duality suggesting threshold experience between realms, the organic pathway geometry winding through landscape creates processional journey that may symbolically prepare visitors for transformative encounter with architecture and program within, stepping stones require deliberate movement and attention, potentially representing mindful approach to learning or cultural experience, the landscape integration demonstrates commitment to environmental harmony, with architecture emerging from rather than imposing upon its setting, suggesting sustainable values and ecological consciousness, the low horizontal profile maintains human scale despite programmatic ambition, potentially expressing accessibility and democratic invitation rather than monumental authority.

Architects initially tried to use symbolic architectural language to establish a connection with the historical environment. In terms of layout, the water drop shape is placed diagonally into the site, which not only elongates the moving line from the city interface to the entrance, but also makes the water drop shape more intuitive in front of the eyes. The profound eaves overhang and large area glass applications create a directionless floating roof, which presents a charming tranquility with the swaying shadows of the trees.
