Eco Ocean Eyewear Collection

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

The material substrate of woven fishing net beneath these eyewear frames establishes immediate symbolic correspondence between oceanic origins and transformed design objects, inviting interpretation through frameworks of renewal, circularity, and environmental redemption. The turquoise-aquamarine tones of the netting activate associations with tropical waters, coastal vitality, and marine ecosystems, while the deliberate visibility of knotted intersections speaks to human craft traditions connecting communities to oceanic resources across millennia. The triadic arrangement of frames may evoke classical symbolic groupings suggesting completeness, balance, and dynamic harmony, while the diagonal descent creates visual narrative implying journey or transformation from raw material to refined object. The chromatic progression from cool slate through warm earth to grounded charcoal traces elemental associations: water, earth, and mineral depth, suggesting the collection draws from the full spectrum of natural coastal environments. The matte surface treatment across all frames carries connotations of humility, authenticity, and tactile honesty, rejecting glossy artifice in favor of material truth. The circular temple tips echo organic forms found in sea-tumbled stones and weathered shells, suggesting design philosophy attuned to natural geometries. The diamond lattice of the underlying net activates geometric symbolism of intersection, network, and interconnection, perhaps proposing that individual consumer choices participate in larger systems of environmental impact and potential restoration. The presentation format itself, isolating these objects against their source material, functions as visual argument for transparent supply chains and material provenance awareness, inviting contemplation of the full lifecycle of everyday objects and the possibility that functional beauty might emerge from ecological responsibility.

Eco Ocean frames are made from recycled ocean plastic, because plastic has no place in the ocean. Eco teamed up with the NGO Waste Free Oceans to source old ropes from the maritime industry found in the ocean and on shorelines. The waste material is shredded and molded into pellets which in turn are injection molded into frames. The collection consists of bold yet easy-to-wear frames. They are lightweight and super comfortable with a smooth, matte finish in ocean-inspired shades. Each frame comes in a case made from recycled PET fabric.
