Living The Noom Housing

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2021

The symbolic vocabulary embedded within Living The Noom Housing operates through sophisticated dialogues between natural and constructed, vertical and horizontal, individual and collective, tradition and innovation. The tower forms themselves suggest archetypal vessels or chalices, containers of life rising from earth toward sky, their tapered profiles echoing seed pods, chrysalises, or emerging shoots that encode themes of growth, transformation, and organic becoming. Vertical timber louvers function as permeable membranes rather than defensive walls, suggesting openness, breath, and exchange between interior sanctuary and exterior environment, subverting the fortress mentality often embedded in residential architecture. The integration of living plant material into building skin carries profound symbolic weight, proposing that architecture need not oppose nature but might instead nurture and be nurtured by botanical life, encoding values of symbiosis, regeneration, and ecological responsibility. Solar panels crowning each tower position renewable energy harvesting at the apex, traditionally the location reserved for sacred or significant elements, suggesting that sustainable technology has assumed spiritual importance in contemporary culture. The pool's organic form, echoing rather than contrasting with architectural curves, encodes integration and flow rather than opposition, its turquoise waters suggesting purification, renewal, and the essential role of water in sustaining life. Spatial organization creates a clearing within jungle density, encoding the archetypal pattern of sanctuary carved from wilderness, dwelling as protected space that nevertheless maintains permeable relationship with surrounding nature. The presence of human figures throughout establishes scale while encoding themes of community, leisure, and contemplative relationship with environment, suggesting architecture designed not merely for shelter but for flourishing, connection, and meaningful dwelling within the living world.

The project is based on 3 main axes; Wellness Living, Sustainability and Flexible Living. It aims to propose a new housing concept for the real estate market. A housing concept that offers wellness and sustainable features that benefit health and the environment, with a low density and low land occupancy percentage while maintaining a competitive and affordable price. It also offers Flexible Living because it is designed as an open-plan building that can be configured in multiple options and satisfy different needs.
