Meama Dropper Coffee Capsules Vending

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

The dual-material articulation of Chelidze's vending installation operates as a sophisticated meditation on complementary oppositions, with concrete and timber functioning as archetypal representatives of the constructed and the cultivated, the industrial and the artisanal. The bilateral symmetry creates visual balance while the material differentiation allows viewers to project personal preferences and associations onto functionally identical forms, suggesting that identity emerges through surface expression rather than structural difference. The vertical tube display transforms product inventory into chromatic spectacle, encoding abundance and variety as visual pleasure while the transparent materiality communicates honesty and accessibility. The stepped horizontal bases reference both natural geological formations and modernist architectural vocabulary, grounding the elevated display portions with suggestions of permanence and stability. The diamond-shaped dispensing apertures introduce sacred geometry, the rhombus traditionally associated with protection and the intersection of opposing forces. The chromatic organization of capsules—greens suggesting vitality, oranges suggesting warmth, pinks suggesting refinement, burgundies suggesting depth—creates an emotional gradient that guides consumer desire through color psychology. The installation's placement against vertical wooden slats creates visual rhyme and contextual integration, while the flanking plants introduce biophilic elements that humanize the automated transaction. The diagonal staircase behind introduces dynamic energy and aspiration into the otherwise stable composition. This design positions the mundane coffee capsule as worthy of ceremonial presentation, elevating daily ritual through material consideration and spatial dignity, ultimately arguing that thoughtful design transforms mere consumption into conscious experience.

Dropper is an innovative vending machine for coffee capsules - with a distinctive design that follows Meama’s Head Office design concept. Dropper is presented in two visuals - concrete and wood. Customers have the opportunity to match them with different interiors. Dropper’s upper section’s transparent design allows the customers to view all six cylinders filled with various coffee capsules, which makes it easier to choose their preferable flavor. In addition to its ease of use and design, Dropper is energy efficient and eco-friendly.
