Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
Curved glass and warm sunset light converge in Tomasz Konior's Press Glass Headquarters to create a rich symbolic vocabulary speaking to themes of transparency, fluidity, and the harmonious integration of human enterprise with natural cycles. The serpentine architectural form carries archetypal resonance with water, rivers, and organic growth patterns, suggesting an institution that flows and adapts rather than one that imposes rigid geometric order upon its context. Glass as the dominant material operates within a symbolic tradition associating transparency with openness, honesty, and enlightened communication, the building literally allowing vision to pass through it while simultaneously reflecting the world back upon itself. The tripartite vertical organization echoes traditional symbolic associations with three as a number of dynamic balance and forward movement, while the continuous horizontal bands suggest unity, connection, and unbroken flow. The colonnade of pilotis creates a liminal threshold space, an architectural passage between exterior public realm and interior private function that carries traditional associations with transition, welcome, and mediated entry. The building's reflective capacity transforms it into a responsive surface that captures and displays its environmental context, symbolically positioning the institution as one that listens to and mirrors its surroundings rather than existing in isolation. The sunset timing activates rich symbolic associations with culmination, transformation, the threshold between states, and the golden moment of achievement before rest. Water features within the landscape carry universal symbolic freight connecting to purification, flow, life force, and the continuous movement of time. The winter dormant vegetation speaks to cyclical renewal, patience, and the promise inherent in apparent stillness.
The office buildings are usually established in city centers or at important communication junctions. However, the goal was to design Press Glass headquarters on a green plateau. Triangular plan and soft lines adds dynamics and ease to the entire structure. The design has a clear principle to locate offices along the external facade, while the relax and open space zones would be placed around the inner courtyard. Thanks to this, project takes full advantage of the natural surroundings and light.
