Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022
The spiral descent of illuminated rings within SIG Design's Fantasy Factory Retail Store activates profound archetypal resonances with celestial and cosmic symbolism, evoking the ancient human fascination with heavenly bodies, orbital paths, and the sacred geometry of concentricity that appears across diverse spiritual traditions from mandala formations to sacred architectural domes. The helical form suggests continuous motion, growth, and transformation, connecting to universal symbols of evolution, DNA structure, and the eternal cycles of nature that have captivated human imagination across cultures and centuries. The highly reflective crumpled ceiling surfaces function as a contemporary interpretation of celestial vaults, their fractured reflections multiplying light sources in ways that recall starfields or the shimmering quality of water surfaces catching sunlight, thus invoking elemental associations with both sky and sea. Gold, the dominant chromatic presence, carries universal associations with solar energy, enlightenment, value, and transcendence, while its deployment in such abundance transforms the commercial environment into something approaching the sacred or ceremonial. The curved bar counter below the celestial canopy establishes a threshold between realms, the luminous white band suggesting purification or transition as visitors approach the service ritual. The contrast between warm overhead illumination and cool peripheral accents creates a chromatic dialogue between invitation and mystery, between the known center and the intriguing periphery, encouraging exploration while providing psychological orientation. The circular and spiral motifs throughout reinforce themes of wholeness, completion, and return, suggesting that the retail experience might be understood as a journey or pilgrimage of discovery rather than mere transaction. The reflective surfaces multiply presence, both of light and of visitors themselves, creating a sense of expanded community and shared experience within the space.
The fantasy factory with on-site baking as the core selling point, integrates tea, retail, IP gifts, and bar sectors to create a multi-functional factory store. The design concept FTY was extracted from Factory. F stands for Fair. For large flow of people and rich product categories, the space was planed in the way of a market. T stands for Time. The color of the shop is extracted from the color changes of the sky, implying time changes of a day. Y refers to You (customers). The different You in the mirror is extended to the multi-dimensional interactive device.
