Be Amphitheatre Outdoor Event Space

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2022

The curved concrete canopy of mode:lina™'s Be Amphitheatre functions as a powerful archetypal threshold, embodying the ancient human impulse toward sheltered gathering spaces that mediate between the vastness of sky and the groundedness of earth, the elliptical form resonates with cosmic geometries found across cultures from prehistoric stone circles to Renaissance ideal city plans, suggesting wholeness, community, and cyclical return, the warm ochre ground surface evokes associations with earthen floors of traditional gathering spaces while the ascending concrete shell reaches upward in a gesture that might be read as aspiration or protection, the triadic arrangement of circular ground elements introduces numerical symbolism associated with balance and dynamic stability, while the repetitive rhythm of overhead lighting fixtures creates a visual tempo suggestive of processional movement and temporal progression, the material dialogue between cool concrete permanence and warm timber ephemerality speaks to enduring architectural themes of shelter and comfort, monumentality and human scale, the twilight setting activates symbolic associations with threshold moments, transitions between states, the liminal space between day and night when communities historically gathered for storytelling and shared experience, the open aperture facing outward maintains visual democracy and accessibility while the enfolding curve creates intimate enclosure, this spatial choreography embodies what phenomenologists might term the embrace of architecture, the design inviting contemplation of how built form shapes human gathering, cultural transmission, and collective memory across generations.

Every society needs space to sit by the campfire, to talk, to see, and express oneself. Amphitheatre has become a place of meaningful gatherings and speeches, a new symbol of this part of Warsaw and a fuel for change. This modern construct looks for a new angle to things already known. The outdoor scene rose to face the demand that haunts Warsaw's business district lack of open and public spaces, free of fences, allowing for casual, friendly meetings out in the open. The final shape of this building is a match made out of the classical formula of the amphitheater and green zones.
