Lake Tea Table

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2022

Yeak design's Lake Tea Table operates within a rich symbolic vocabulary that merges natural organic forms with human functional design, activating archetypal resonances between cultivated domestic objects and primordial natural elements through its biomorphic volumetric language and material choices. The paired hollow base structures suggest archetypal dualities, two forms that maintain distinct identities while joining at center to create unified support, this pairing evokes symbolic frameworks of balance, partnership, and complementary forces without resolving into perfect symmetry, the substantial carved negative spaces within these forms carry significant symbolic weight as they transform absence into active presence, void into expressive element, this celebration of emptiness alongside solidity resonates with traditions across multiple cultures that recognize negative space as spiritually and aesthetically meaningful rather than merely residual. The walnut material itself carries cultural associations with luxury, permanence, craft tradition, and the transformation of living organic matter into enduring functional objects, its warm brown tonality operates within color frameworks that associate earth tones with grounding, stability, natural authenticity, and connection to material reality, the visible wood grain patterns with their longitudinal striations and natural figuring preserve evidence of the tree's growth history and maintain connection to organic origins even as the wood has been shaped into refined geometric forms, this tension between natural material and human geometric ordering suggests symbolic frameworks of culture emerging from nature, human creativity working with and through natural materials rather than against them. The oval format of the tabletop resonates with symbolic associations of the ellipse as a form that suggests movement, flow, continuity without beginning or end, and organic growth patterns, while the horizontal orientation and low profile suggest groundedness, stability, accessibility, and invitation to gather around, the circular drawer pull, though functionally minimal, introduces the symbolism of the circle as a primary geometric form associated across traditions with wholeness, completion, and centering. The work's title reference to lake imagery invites symbolic interpretation through water associations, lakes as places of reflection, depth, stillness, boundary between land and water, contained wildness, and the gradual sculpting action of water on stone over time, the smooth flowing curves of the base structures could be read as evoking water-worn stones or tidal formations, suggesting themes of natural process, patient transformation, and the slow collaboration between elemental forces and resistant materials, the drawer's revelation of interior space and visible joinery symbolically acknowledges the relationship between exterior presentation and interior construction, between what conceals and what reveals, between seamless surface and the evidence of making, ultimately the piece functions within spatial and domestic frameworks as a centering element, a gathering point, a horizontal plane that defines territory and invites interaction, its sculptural presence elevating the quotidian ritual of the tea table into an encounter with material beauty and formal contemplation, how might this object's symbolic vocabulary speak to contemporary desires for authenticity, craftsmanship, connection to natural materials, and the integration of aesthetic experience into daily domestic life?

Lake is a coffee table with motion tendency specially designed for the modern home environment. Lending wood a brand new 3D style of a curved surface, this product comfortably balance motion and stillness, and harmoniously integrates aesthetic elements and functions. The visual flow adds an ethereal feeling to modern home space and conveys a chic and vibrant sense to users.
