Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022
The symbolic vocabulary embedded within Angela Spindler's collagen supplement packaging operates through carefully orchestrated material and chromatic choices that communicate brand values through archetypal resonances rather than explicit declaration. Green glass, throughout material culture history, carries associations with preservation, vitality, and the apothecary tradition—amber and green vessels historically protected precious contents from light degradation, establishing green as a chromatic signifier of care, protection, and medicinal efficacy. The particular emerald saturation selected here amplifies these associations while introducing connotations of renewal, growth, and natural wellness drawn from vegetation symbolism across numerous cultural traditions. The wooden lid element introduces complementary symbolic dimensions: timber represents connection to natural cycles, organic authenticity, and sustainable consciousness, while its circular turned form echoes ancient container traditions where skilled craftspeople shaped functional objects for daily use. The geometric relationship between cylindrical lid and tapering glass body creates subtle tension between stability and aspiration, grounding and reaching, the earthbound and the elevated—a visual metaphor perhaps for the transformative promises wellness products extend to consumers. The hanging paper tag functions as a seal of authenticity, its vertical text orientation suggesting eastern calligraphic traditions and mindful reading while its cream coloration introduces purity symbolism. The overall compositional staging upon a plinth elevates the everyday object toward ceremonial status, transforming routine supplement consumption into conscious self-care ritual. Material honesty—glass that reveals, wood that grounds, paper that identifies—communicates brand values of transparency, authenticity, and straightforward communication without requiring verbal elaboration. The warm neutral background creates a cocoon of intimacy, suggesting these objects belong within personal domestic sanctuaries dedicated to wellbeing practices.
The agency was commissioned to create a visual identity system and packaging design, including a bespoke vessel for this luxury atelier. Where possible all materials were selected based on their environmental credentials, ranging from the use of post-consumer waste, FSC papers and soy-based inks. The packaging uses a colour palette of dark green and light pastel hues, high quality materials, structures and subtle print finishes to create a tangible sense of both luxury and prestige.
