Matteo Ruisi's Visual Identity for a major financial institution operates within rich symbolic territories that interweave themes of trust, continuity, heritage, and transformation through carefully orchestrated visual language. The deep blue ground functions as a chromatic signifier of depth, stability, and authority, colors traditionally associated with institutional gravitas, maritime power, and the vastness of sky and sea that suggest enduring presence beyond individual human timescales. The curving banknote introduces dynamic tension into this stable field, its serpentine form potentially evoking archetypal associations with transformation, fluidity, and the cyclical nature of exchange and value circulation through economic systems. The polymer material itself carries contemporary connotations of innovation, durability, and technological advancement, while the visible guilloche patterns reference centuries of engraving tradition and the craftsman's art of creating unreproducible complexity as a guardian against falsification. The holographic element functions as a potent symbol of authenticity in an age of reproduction, its light-diffracting properties creating colors that cannot be captured or counterfeited, suggesting truth revealed through proper illumination. The warm coral and rose tones create chromatic associations with flesh, warmth, and human connection, counterbalancing the cool institutional authority of the surrounding blue. The composition's diagonal thrust may be read as suggesting forward momentum and progress while the note's gentle curve implies flexibility and adaptability. White typography connotes clarity, purity, and transparency in communication, essential values for financial institutions built upon public trust and confidence.
Designing for a central bank means finding a balance between technical and sensitive information, staff-led outputs, engaging general communications, and a series of regulations. This is not simple to achieve and it is based on delicate internal dynamics. The new identity has been developed together with the people who will use it, balancing all the aspects of the communications. It focuses on reaching a wider public with an accessible, relevant, structured, and distinctive approach. These key principles have been used as a design direction for all the visual assets.
