Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022
The M346 Homage Super Car by Robson Marques de Pontes operates as a sophisticated visual text encoding multiple layers of cultural meaning through its deliberate formal choices and contextual staging. The scissor door deployment functions as an archetypal gesture of transformation and potential energy, evoking avian imagery of wings extended before flight, the upward-reaching forms suggesting aspiration, transcendence, and liberation from earthbound constraints. The deliberate pairing with military aircraft activates rich symbolic associations between automotive and aerospace engineering cultures, suggesting shared values of precision, performance optimization, and technological mastery while invoking the romance of flight that has captivated human imagination across civilizations. The cool metallic palette carries connotations of advanced technology, precision machining, and futuristic capability, silver traditionally associated with modernity, speed, and the industrial sublime since the early twentieth century when streamlined design first emerged as an aesthetic movement. The bilateral symmetry governing the composition invokes classical principles of balance and formal perfection, suggesting completeness and resolution while the aggressive forward stance implies potential movement and latent power awaiting release. The X-shaped headlight signatures function as distinctive identity markers while their angular geometry reinforces associations with precision, technology, and contemporary digital aesthetics. The carbon fiber elements visible in the front fascia carry material semiotics of lightweight strength, racing heritage, and elite manufacturing processes, their woven texture suggesting both advanced composite technology and artisanal craft traditions. The runway setting establishes a liminal space, a threshold between stillness and motion, groundedness and flight, potentiality and actualization, inviting contemplation of the moment before action, the gathering of forces prior to their dramatic release into kinetic expression.
Intended in two configurations, an all electric and a mid-engine V8, the M346 Homage is a bespoke track and road, 2-seater, super sportive car design project proposal that looks for inspiration in the Aermacchi M-346, the fastest Italian fighter aircraft ever built to date, to bring together lightweight composites and aerospace aluminum construction in addition to advanced aerodynamic concepts in an elegant silhouette with very sleek automotive proportions and quite unique design features and solutions.
