Chalets Dada Residential Building

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2022

Architectural form language within Joy Alexandre Harb's residential design articulates through the symbolic vocabulary of shelter, ascent, and harmonious dwelling that resonates across human building traditions. The gabled roofline profiles evoke archetypal house imagery encoded in human consciousness, the peaked roof as universal signifier of home, protection, and domestic sanctuary, while their multiplication and variation suggests community, family gathering, and the clustering of related functions under interconnected shelters. Vertical timber elements carry symbolic weight as mediating screens between public and private realms, their rhythm suggesting both protection and permeability, the forest translated into architectural gesture maintaining connection to material origins while providing psychological threshold conditions. The stone base establishes geological permanence and connection to earth, grounding the composition with elemental stability that counters the lightness of the glazed upper volumes, creating a symbolic journey from earthbound foundation through material warmth to luminous transparency approaching the sky. Material progression from rough to refined may be understood as encoding human transformation of natural resources through craft and technology, celebrating the alchemical process by which raw materials become refined dwelling. The expansive glazing functions as architectural aperture framing landscape as contemplative artwork, suggesting philosophical orientation toward nature appreciation and environmental consciousness as central to dwelling experience. The compositional integration of built form within pastoral setting encodes values of contextual sensitivity, environmental stewardship, and the pursuit of harmonious relationship between human habitation and natural systems. The presence of human figures in familial groupings reinforces symbolic readings of home as container for nurturing relationships and intergenerational continuity, while the autumn foliage introduces cyclical temporal symbolism suggesting acceptance of natural rhythms and seasonal transformation as context for meaningful domestic life.

The basic geometrical design was inspired by a child's scribbling when he was asked to create a house. A play between solids, voids and materials was experimented in order to have the final result Located in the high highlands of Lebanon's Faraya Resorts, Chalets Dada exemplify beauty and luxury. The composition is built on the foundation of a ground level hosting one large apartment bordered by a flower garden. Two unusual duplexes are stoned with Terrazzo on the first and attic floors.
