Bioo Biotechnological Lamp

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023

Carlos Cabrera's Bioo Biotechnological Lamp operates as a sophisticated symbolic synthesis of nature and nurture, technology and biology, illumination and cultivation, encoding within its form language a contemporary meditation on humanity's evolving relationship with the living world. The teardrop or gourd-like silhouette carries archetypal resonance with vessels of containment and nourishment, evoking associations with the womb, the seed pod, the alembic of transformation, and the lamp as traditional symbol of wisdom, guidance, and the cultivation of inner light. The integration of the succulent plant within the lamp's crown establishes a visual metaphor of ideas flowering from illumination, growth emerging from warmth, and the interdependence of the technological and the botanical, while the Echeveria's rosette formation suggests sacred geometry, the mandala, and patterns of natural unfolding that encode mathematical harmonies within organic form. The cork base introduces material symbolism associated with sustainable harvest, cellular structure, and the Mediterranean traditions of working with renewable materials, grounding the ethereal glow above in earthbound practicality and ecological consciousness. The chromatic choice of amber-gold illumination carries deep symbolic freight across cultures, associated with solar energy, divine presence, honey and its connotations of preservation and sweetness, and the alchemical goal of transforming base matter into spiritual gold. The human hand entering the frame transforms the object from static display into relational encounter, the gesture of reaching toward the living plant encoding themes of connection, care, tending, and the fundamental human impulse to touch and nurture growing things. The overall visual system proposes a model of designed objects as sites of symbiosis rather than extraction, suggesting that illumination and cultivation, technology and nature, human intention and botanical growth might exist in harmonious mutual support, offering a material philosophy of dwelling that honors both human needs and the flourishing of other living beings within shared domestic space.

Bioo, the biological switch. A lamp that is activated by touching a plant resting on the backlit pot created from sustainable materials such as ceramic and cork. This is Bioo lux, the jewel that gave the opportunity to create visual art and high-impact creativity to match the innovation and technology of this new launch. From the beginning, the objective was clear, to generate a spectacular, elegant and aesthetic video.
