Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023
Tengyuan Design's Exhibition Center operates within a rich symbolic vocabulary that positions architecture as mediator between terrestrial human experience and the infinite expanses of maritime horizon, employing formal strategies that encode profound meanings about threshold, aspiration, and the relationship between constructed order and natural flux. The dominant horizontal white roof plane functions as an architectural gesture of sheltering protection while simultaneously echoing the distant horizon line, creating visual rhyme that suggests continuity between human making and cosmic order, a formal strategy resonant with longstanding traditions of pavilion architecture that establish viewing platforms for contemplation of landscape and sky. The curvilinear podium element wrapping the building's base introduces organic counterpoint to rectilinear precision, potentially symbolizing the building's responsive relationship to site topography while evoking associations with water, flow, and the dynamic forces of coastal environments. The positioning at the threshold between land and sea activates archetypal resonances of liminal space, the boundary condition that has perennially attracted human settlement and inspired artistic meditation on transitions, departures, and the meeting of known and unknown realms. The golden-hour illumination captures the building at a symbolically charged temporal moment, the transitional period between day and night that carries associations of contemplation, transformation, and the precious quality of fleeting beauty. The elevated viewpoint positions the observer in a relationship of comprehensive understanding, suggesting mastery and overview while the building itself maintains horizontal humility against the vast scale of sky and sea. The glass transparency of the exhibition volumes may be understood as encoding values of openness, accessibility, and the dissolution of boundaries between interior experience and exterior landscape, inviting interpretation as architectural commitment to connection rather than separation. The careful landscape integration, with its sinuous pathways leading toward the water, suggests processional movement and choreographed revelation, encoding the exhibition experience as journey rather than mere destination, reflecting sophisticated understanding of how spatial sequence shapes meaning and memory within architectural encounter.
At the intersection of cornice and sky, Added transition elements such as beveled edges and arcs to make the connection between the building volume and the sky more smooth. The delicate structure makes the form and content maintain sufficient coordination, and the relationship between the whole and the part is properly handled. The structure under the clean and pure building facade. The pure all glass curtain wall and simple cornice bring visitors a pure experience.
