KK-Park Signage System

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

The chromatic progression embedded within Updesign's KK-Park Signage System activates profound symbolic associations connecting human experience of navigation with emotional and psychological dimensions of spatial belonging. The rainbow spectrum traditionally symbolizes hope, diversity, and inclusive welcome across numerous cultural traditions, suggesting this wayfinding element functions beyond mere direction-giving to communicate fundamental values of accessibility and joyful community gathering. The circular form with central aperture carries archetypal resonance with wholeness, completion, and cyclical return, perhaps suggesting that visitors who follow this guidance will experience satisfying journeys with fulfilling arrivals. The vertical compositional thrust from ground toward sky echoes universal symbolic associations of growth, aspiration, and connection between earthly and elevated realms. Blue tones grounding the base traditionally signify stability, trust, and calm foundation, while the warming progression toward orange and amber suggests increasing vitality, energy, and positive anticipation as one approaches destination. The typography's trilingual presentation encodes values of cultural bridge-building and hospitality toward diverse visitors. The sculptural dimensional treatment transforms functional infrastructure into gift-like presence within the landscape, suggesting that even practical necessities can embody generosity of spirit and aesthetic care. The interplay between geometric precision and organic landscape setting creates dialogue between human creative ordering and natural growth patterns, perhaps symbolizing harmonious coexistence between built environment and living ecology. The central void framing sky invites contemplation of openness, possibility, and the freedom inherent in recreational public space.

Located in the China-South Korea (Yancheng) Industrial Park, the site of a former playground, after renovation, was restored to a Sino-Korean cultural exchange leisure block. The site's mission is to publicize the city brand and promote South Korean culture. China is correlated with South Korea in terms of history and culture. The design deconstructs and rebuilds the Korean elements such as iconic ribbons of traditional Korean costume, the traditional Korean color "Obangsaek" and strokes characteristics of Korean characters.
