Royal Tulip Warsaw Apartments Aparthotel

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

Spatial hierarchy within Magdalena Federowicz-Boule's Aparthotel bar interior operates through carefully calibrated architectural gestures that encode meaning beyond functional arrangement, establishing the curved portal as a symbolic threshold between realms of social experience and service ritual. The arch form carries deep archetypal resonance across cultures, traditionally signifying passage, protection, and welcome, here inviting guests to cross from casual occupancy into the ceremonial space of beverage consumption where social bonds are formed and solidified through shared ritual. The constellation of globe pendants suspended in grid formation above this threshold suggests celestial order imposed upon terrestrial gathering, their regular arrangement contrasting with the organic flow of the neon artwork to establish creative tension between rational structure and intuitive expression that characterizes sophisticated design philosophy. Brass and copper metallic elements function as material signifiers of established luxury and traditional craftsmanship, their warm tones activating associations with historical periods of elegant sociability while their contemporary deployment signals design consciousness that honors heritage without mere replication. The deliberate preservation of industrial ceiling elements speaks to contemporary values of authenticity and transparency, revealing rather than concealing the mechanical systems that support human comfort, a gesture of honesty that builds trust through visual accessibility. The serpentine neon installation against distressed plaster introduces the artist's hand into the commercial environment, its flowing forms suggesting organic growth, water movement, or the improvisational spirit that distinguishes memorable hospitality experiences from predictable ones. Color temperature contrasts throughout encode the fundamental hospitality dialectic between excitement and comfort, cool blue walls providing visual stability while warm metallic and lighting elements create points of attraction and intimacy. The rhythmic brass balusters simultaneously connect and separate, embodying the social dynamics of public hospitality where strangers share space while maintaining individual territories, their permeability allowing visual connection while establishing gentle boundaries that support both conviviality and privacy.

Royal Tulip Warsaw is a modern aparthotel that creates a new category in hospitality: a hybrid of a luxury hotel, home, and office. The rich history of the place, as well as of Warsaw itself, became an inspiration for designers. Inspired by the great district plan of the capital from the 1920s, they alluded to its shape and the arrangement of its districts. In the whole building can be found analogies to parts of the city such as Wola, Srodmiescie, or Zoliborz.
