TIC Art Exhibition Center

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023

The architectural vocabulary of Ann Yu's Tic Art Exhibition Center operates through a sophisticated dialogue between archetypal forms and contemporary material expression, embedding multiple layers of cultural meaning within its spatial and material choices. The circular water feature resonates with ancient associations of the mandala, the cosmic diagram, and the gathering circle found across human civilizations as symbols of community, wholeness, and contemplation, while the stepped amphitheater form recalls classical traditions of public assembly and democratic congregation. The perforated triangular screen wrapping the primary volume participates in rich genealogies of architectural filtering devices, from traditional screens that mediate between interior privacy and exterior publicity to contemporary interpretations that transform sunshading into ornamental expression, suggesting veiling, mystery, and the gradual revelation of what lies within. The chromatic dominance of earth tones ranging from terracotta to oxidized copper connects the structure symbolically to the ground itself, suggesting rootedness, permanence, and material authenticity while the weathering patina these surfaces will develop over time embeds the architecture within natural cycles of growth and transformation. The threshold arch at the building's base functions as a traditional symbol of passage and welcome, its curved form softening the otherwise rectilinear mass and creating a liminal zone between public plaza and interior gallery. The interplay between circle and rectangle, between the organic and the geometric, suggests a reconciliation of opposites, perhaps representing art's capacity to mediate between nature and culture, tradition and innovation, individual contemplation and collective experience.

Tic Art Center is a public urban landmark project. The overall design scope covered landscape, architecture, interior, and products, bringing together the innovation of structure, aiming to provide a comprehensive yet rhythmic spatial experience. This project Influence as a micro-urban landscape. It also impacts re-active the product trend of the hand-made brick industry which makes a successful practice of environmental-friendly architecture. The project has become a destination for numerous visitors while contributing to the brand value of the client as well as the land value in the area.
