Argan Life Skincare

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

Angela Spindler's packaging design operates as a sophisticated visual communication system wherein chromatic choices function as primary carriers of brand meaning and product differentiation. The triadic color progression from warm coral through golden yellow to cool lavender suggests a complete skincare ritual moving through stages of activation, nourishment, and restoration, each hue carrying established cultural associations within wellness iconography. The coral pink evokes vitality and gentle renewal, traditionally associated with dawn and new beginnings; the saffron yellow speaks to precious botanical oils and the warmth of Mediterranean traditions; the mauve lavender suggests calming resolution and the twilight moment of self-care completion. The geometric basketweave pattern adorning each cap references artisanal craft heritage and hand-woven traditions, positioning the products within a lineage of careful making and traditional knowledge transmission. The decorative tree motif functions as botanical iconography suggesting argan tree silhouettes, connecting visual identity to ingredient narrative through symbolic shorthand. The architectural arch framing the composition activates associations with sacred spaces, portals, and thresholds, suggesting that engagement with these products constitutes crossing into a realm of elevated experience. The vertical typography orientation references Eastern calligraphic traditions while maintaining Western legibility, bridging cultural aesthetic vocabularies. The violet environmental color carries established connotations of creativity, luxury, and transformation within color psychology frameworks. The ascending diagonal arrangement from lower left to upper right traces the traditional reading path while suggesting progression and aspiration, encoding the promise of transformative results within compositional structure itself.

The designer was commissioned to develop sustainable packaging for a mixed range of hair and skincare products. The project challenge was to use one size of packaging for three different-sized products. This required some clever internal cardboard engineering to support the products inside the single-size tube. The cardboard tubes were printed offset with black plus two spot colors, a spot UV varnish, and all over satin aqueous varnish. The lid labels were printed in two colors on a self-adhesive stock.
