Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023
The chromatic strategy deployed across Olha Takhtarova's Una Luna Collection operates as a sophisticated system of flavor semiotics wherein abstract color relationships communicate taste experiences through established synesthetic associations and cultural coding. The deep black substrate functions symbolically as both void and vessel, evoking notions of mystery, premium quality, and the anticipatory darkness before revelation, aligning with archetypal associations of darkness with hidden treasures and concentrated essence. Gold typography carries millennia of symbolic weight connecting to solar radiance, alchemical perfection, and material preciousness, positioning the brand within aspirational registers while the warm metallic tone suggests sweetness and indulgence. Each illustrated variant employs color as primary communicative vehicle: the spiral green-yellow-blue composition suggests freshness, natural vitality, and perhaps herbal or mint qualities through the universal association of green with vegetation and renewal, while the spheroid form evokes wholeness and concentrated flavor. The warm orange-red gestural variant activates associations with warmth, spice, citrus, and passion through chromatic temperature and the dynamic mark-making suggesting energy release. The pink-coral petal forms invoke floral femininity, berry sweetness, and romantic sensibility through culturally coded associations of pink with delicacy and pleasure. The blue horizontal bands suggest coolness, depth, berry varieties, and refreshment through temperature associations and aqueous visual metaphors. The overall design system demonstrates how contemporary commercial semiotics can communicate complex sensory information through purely visual means, bypassing linguistic description to create immediate emotional and appetitive responses. The modular yet expressive approach reflects broader cultural values celebrating both individual distinction and systematic belonging, while the Eastern European typographic elements anchor the collection within specific cultural geography and heritage traditions.
The new Una Luna collection of chocolates is based on original liqueurs and Italian chocolates. But it's not only the unusual flavors that make this collection stand out. The packaging design is inspired by the energy of each flavor, presented abstractly with unexpected strokes and brush strokes created by the designer. When you take a box of Una Luna chocolates in your hands, you will feel like you are opening a real work of art and when you take your first bite, you will be able to feel all its combinations.
