Dance with Life Public Art

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

The ascending helical configuration of Kuo Kuo-Hsiang's Dance with Life carries profound symbolic weight within cross-cultural iconographic traditions, where the spiral represents cosmic creative forces, evolutionary ascent, and the eternal dance of life energies. The intertwining of three distinct ribbon elements suggests trinitarian wholeness—body, mind, and spirit in harmonious integration, or the philosophical concept of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis achieving dynamic resolution through upward movement. The golden central element functions as an axis mundi or spiritual core around which the silver outer bands orbit, potentially encoding meanings of illumination, solar vitality, and precious essence protected within protective embrace. The flame-like silhouette activates archetypal associations with transformation, purification, and the sacred fire present in countless spiritual traditions as symbol of divine presence and human aspiration toward transcendence. The mirror-polished surface treatment transforms the sculpture into what alchemical traditions might recognize as a philosophical mirror—reflecting and transforming the viewer's image, dissolving boundaries between self and artwork, interior and exterior realms. The placement within a reflective pool amplifies symbolic resonance, suggesting emergence from primordial waters, the intersection of celestial aspiration with chthonic grounding, and the doubling or multiplication of meaning through reflection. The contextual dialogue with guardian figures flanking a threshold portal enriches interpretation, positioning the sculpture as marking a ceremonial entrance or transitional space where ordinary existence transforms into elevated experience. The choreographic title explicitly invokes dance as organizing metaphor—suggesting that existence itself constitutes rhythmic movement, relational interweaving, and graceful navigation through time and space, with the sculpture embodying this vitalist philosophy in permanent material form.

The symbol of infinity conveys the concept of endlessness and greatness. Its smooth and vivid shapes highlight the infinite freedom of life exploration, and convey an atmosphere that is fresh, beautiful, and rejuvenating! This public sculpture with a winding structure is installed on a pool at the center of a circular plaza. It is an important landmark, Hope to make people feel the wonder between life and the universe.
