Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023
Paliburg Holdings Limited's Regala Skycity Hotel functions as a complex architectural sign system encoding messages of arrival, transition, and contemporary hospitality excellence through its carefully orchestrated formal vocabulary. The sweeping curved facade operates as a welcoming gesture, its convex form creating an embrace that symbolically receives visitors while differentiating this structure from the orthogonal conventions of everyday commercial architecture, suggesting a special destination worthy of departure from routine experience. The vertical fins projecting from the curtain wall encode dual meanings, functioning practically as solar shading devices while symbolically suggesting the protective veil or screen that separates the sanctuary of hospitality from the external world, a threshold marker rendered in contemporary materials. The crown element with its projecting canopy fins evokes archetypal shelter symbolism, the extended roof plane that has signified protection and welcome across cultures and centuries, here translated into a modernist vocabulary of angled aluminum planes. The material hierarchy moving from warm earth-toned podium to ethereal glass tower traces a symbolic ascent from ground to sky, the progression from tactile solidity to luminous transparency suggesting the journey from everyday experience to elevated perspective that travel and hospitality promise. The reflective glass surface captures and transforms sky and clouds, making the building itself a dynamic canvas that responds to atmospheric conditions, symbolizing adaptability and responsiveness to context while maintaining architectural integrity. The landscaping with its vertical conifers and low flowering plants establishes a domesticated nature at the threshold, the eternal green of evergreen species suggesting permanence and continuity while red blooms provide warmth and vital energy at the arrival point. The circular traffic island creates a mandala-like form at ground level, the organizing geometry that centers and orients visitors before their entry into the architectural experience, while the building's own curvature suggests the infinite, the circle never quite completing but always in dynamic progression.
Regala Skycity Hotel boasts a unique design inspired by a crystal prism that refracts lights mimicking the fluidity of flight paths from the busy Hong Kong International Airport. It features a vertical tripartite division and is completed with curtain wall that gives the building a sleek and modern look. The hotel offers amenities like a swimming pool, a rooftop jogging path and three restaurants with three different unique design and culinary focus. The Regala Skycity Hotel is an example of modern architecture and sure to impress design enthusiasts and experts alike.
