Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2024
The comprehensive grid system organizing SonyMusic Solutions inc.'s B. League All-Star Game 2023 Op Art installation functions as an elaborate visual language encoding celebration, energy, and collective experience through carefully orchestrated symbolic elements. The spiral and concentric circle motifs traditionally evoke concepts of cosmic rotation, cyclical return, and hypnotic absorption, here channeled toward generating states of heightened attention and excitement appropriate to athletic spectacle. Star iconography scattered throughout the modular composition carries universal associations with excellence, aspiration, and luminous achievement, resonating with the all-star designation that celebrates elite performance. The rainbow arcs appearing across multiple modules invoke traditional symbolism of promise, hope, and the bridging of distinct elements into harmonious unity, perhaps suggesting the gathering of players from different teams into temporary alliance. The checkerboard patterns recall both game boards and optical art traditions, encoding themes of strategic thinking, competitive play, and perceptual engagement. The deliberate juxtaposition of warm chromatic zones against cool passages creates thermal symbolism suggesting the interplay of passion and precision that characterizes athletic excellence. The suspended position of the primary display structure establishes vertical hierarchy, positioning the graphic celebration in an elevated realm that spectators collectively gaze upward to behold, recalling ancient associations between overhead canopies and sacred or ceremonial significance. The theatrical light beams piercing darkness carry archetypal resonance with revelation, attention, and the dramatic moment of appearance, transforming the arena into a site where extraordinary events unfold within illuminated focus. The wooden court surface beneath maintains connection to natural materials and athletic tradition, grounding spectacular visual effects in embodied physical practice.
B. League is Japan's premier basketball league. Op art is an abstract painting calculated to create a special visual effect. Each square depicts a visual image related to basketball, as well as buildings and landmarks that symbolize Mito, the host city. The animation is so dynamic that the eye cannot keep up. The audience was drawn into an exciting immersive experience. The level of basketball in Japan has evolved dramatically in recent years, and the league has seen a dramatic increase in attendance, as well as the demand for high quality in key art and venue production.
