Nanbu Eye Gymnasium

FTA Group's architectural vision for the Nanbu Eye Gymnasium operates through layered symbolic registers that reward sustained interpretive engagement. The dome form carries ancient associations with celestial vaults, sacred enclosures, and cosmic wholeness, the spherical geometry traditionally encoding perfection, unity, and the encompassing embrace of community gathered beneath shared shelter. The geodesic crown structure intensifies these readings through its triangulated lattice, the triangle representing dynamic stability, aspiration, and the synthesis of opposing forces, while the hexagonal aggregation patterns evoke natural formations including honeycomb structures associated with industriousness, collective labor, and sweet productive endeavor. The eye-shaped planimetric configuration suggests profound symbolic content related to vision, watchfulness, wisdom, and illumination, positioning the gymnasium as a place of focused perception where athletes cultivate awareness and spectators witness achievement. The warm-cool chromatic dialogue between amber accent lighting and blue-white dome illumination may encode the complementary relationship between earthly warmth and celestial coolness, between human endeavor and transcendent aspiration. Water in symbolic traditions represents purification, flow, transformation, and the unconscious depths from which renewal emerges, the gymnasium's waterfront positioning perhaps suggesting athletics as a purifying discipline through which individuals transform themselves. Located by the Jialing River, this gymnasium achieves harmony, openness and interaction with nature. The design is carried out from the three core concepts of earthscape, integration and openness. The overall project is conceived as an earthscape, just like a picture scroll in one stroke along the Jialing River. The city and nature are merged together, the architecture and landscape are integrated, a continuous spatial sequence is formed along the waterfront.
