Monochrome Luxury Villa

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024

The spatial organization of Ml Mimarlik's villa interior functions as a meditation on material hierarchy and the psychology of contemporary dwelling. The monochromatic strategy may be understood as referencing the Japanese aesthetic concept of restraint, where reduction intensifies perception of subtle qualities. The vertical ribbed wall surfaces suggest both protective enclosure and refined craftsmanship, their repetitive rhythm creating visual stability associated with architectural permanence. The gridded screen partition carries rich cultural resonance, evoking traditional lattice screens that mediate between interior sanctuary and exterior world, here reinterpreted through geometric modernist vocabulary. Fire as a central element activates archetypal associations with hearth as the symbolic and literal heart of domestic space, the primal gathering point that transforms shelter into home. The linear contemporary interpretation distances this flame from rustic associations while preserving its essential warmth-giving and light-providing functions. The glass enclosure transforms fire into spectacle, something to be observed rather than tended, suggesting contemplation over utility. The singular cactus introduces organic life, its columnar form echoing the vertical architectural rhythms while providing the only saturated green, perhaps symbolizing persistence and adaptation. The amber underlighting creates a threshold effect, the fireplace hovering slightly above the ground plane, dematerialized and luminous. The overall achromatic palette may suggest sophistication through restraint, the confidence to achieve richness through subtlety rather than chromatic abundance, inviting inhabitants into a space of refined calm and meditative presence.

Project is located in Istanbul as a 400 m2 private boutique villa in a 1000 m2 land area with 5 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 6 bathrooms and a private pool at the land area. The main character of the design is simplicity while using monochrome and natural materials. The star design of the project is a wood sliding curtain system which inspired all the design of the project. Using the wood material so much almost all the walls are implemented by wood panels and the main color selected is gray and stones.
