Within exhibition design contexts, architectural space transforms into communication medium where every material selection, spatial proportion, lighting decision, and surface treatment carries encoded meaning beyond functional necessity. The corridor format itself evokes threshold experience, the liminal passageway between realms suggesting transformation, transition, preparation for encounter beyond, architectural traditions of sacred processional routes, initiatory passages, gallery enfilades that build anticipation through controlled revelation and measured disclosure. The strong linear perspective with vanishing point beyond visible frame suggests journey, destination, teleological movement toward goal or culmination, the compositional pull forward invoking narrative structure with beginning present, middle unfolding, ending promised but deferred beyond immediate perception. The material dialectic between industrial metal framework, ethereal backlit panels, and raw concrete strata establishes meaning through contrast and complement, metal reading as precision, human control, manufactured exactitude, technological capability; translucent glowing panels suggesting dematerialization, transcendence, spiritual aspiration, the ephemeral versus permanent; raw concrete invoking geological time, tectonic permanence, earthbound materiality, honest labor, construction process made visible and celebrated rather than concealed. Light itself functions as primary symbolic carrier, the amber warmth of backlit panels suggesting sanctuary, domesticity, human habitation, the quality of lamplight or hearth fire creating psychological warmth and invitation, while the cooler raking illumination on concrete surfaces emphasizes material truth, revealing rather than concealing construction reality, celebrating surface texture as aesthetic achievement. The modular repetition of vertical panel units creates rhythm and measure, architectural meter suggesting temporal progression, stations along a route, counting, seriality, the modern industrial capacity for precise replication contrasted against concrete's organic irregularity where each surface reveals unique pour marks, formwork grain, aggregate distribution establishing each wall panel as unrepeatable event. The human figure captured in motion blur becomes symbol of embodied experience, architecture scaled to human dimension and activated through human movement, the blur suggesting duration, temporal extension, lived experience unfolding through space over time, contrasting architectural permanence with human transience. Horizontal concrete stratification may evoke geological sedimentation, accumulated time, layered history, foundation and structure, while vertical panel units and steel posts suggest aspiration, uprightness, ascension, the vertical axis traditionally associated with spiritual dimension and hierarchical elevation. The threshold corridor typology carries deep cultural resonance as space of preparation and transformation, architecture creating psychological transition zone where consciousness shifts from exterior quotidian reality toward interior focused engagement, the passage serving as decompression chamber, liminal zone, between-space neither fully origin nor destination but transformative middle ground. Color temperature contrast between warm amber and cool charcoal-gray establishes perceptual oscillation between invitation and reserve, welcome and contemplation, emotional warmth and intellectual distance, creating environmental complexity that resists singular reading. The visible hardware, mounting brackets, tension cables, and construction logic celebrate tectonic honesty, the modernist ethical commitment to revealing how things stand, how they are made, rejecting false surfaces and decorative concealment in favor of structural truth and material authenticity, form following construction logic rather than applied ornament. This spatial proposition invites consideration of how exhibition architecture shapes visitor consciousness, prepares psychological receptivity, establishes environmental mood and affective register supporting focused aesthetic engagement, the corridor functioning perhaps as palate cleanser, attention focuser, threshold ritual preparing body and mind for encounters beyond, architecture itself becoming first artwork establishing values of material truth, human scale, crafted precision, and contemplative quietude that frame subsequent experiences.
The Sheerin Pavilion for 2023 Guangzhou Design Week provides an exhibition space for sintered stones. Artificial stones are employed to simulate the natural ones, aiming to present a spatial ambiance of a mined artificial stone canyon. This simulation and representation create a captivating juxtaposition. The systematic design of space, scene, and structure not only presents the unity of form and force, and the connection between behavior and space, but also provides the possibility of recyclability of the exhibition venue. It is a exploration of sustainable exhibition construction.
