The perforated lattice screen of Milanddesign's Residential Display Area operates as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional moon gate and garden wall, those liminal architectural elements that historically marked transitions between worldly concerns and contemplative retreat. The geometric regularity of the screen's apertures suggests order and human intention, yet the filtered light passing through creates ever-changing shadow patterns that speak to impermanence and natural cycles, embodying the Eastern philosophical principle of finding stillness within movement. The placement of the unworked natural stone within the formal bronze-edged basin evokes the scholar's rock tradition, where stones of unusual character were collected as microcosms of mountains and objects of meditation, their irregular surfaces representing the untamed forces of nature contained within the cultivated garden. Water, appearing in both still reflection and gentle cascade, carries layered meanings across cultures: purification, flow of time, the source of life, and the mirror of self-reflection. The horizontal training of the specimen tree suggests human cultivation working in harmony with natural growth patterns, neither dominating nature nor abandoning it to wildness, but achieving a collaborative beauty impossible without both forces. The curved bronze planter bed introduces the circle, symbol of heaven and completion in many traditions, into dialogue with the rectangular geometries of screens and pavers, creating the archetypal union of celestial and terrestrial realms. The layered spatial arrangement, from threshold through garden court to residential architecture beyond, maps the classical progression from public to private, from worldly to domestic, inviting inhabitants to leave external concerns at the beautiful gate and enter a realm of aesthetic contemplation and personal renewal.
Featuring the thematic characteristics of shallow mountains and picturesque landscapes, the design of this resort residence is inspired by Pictures of Travelers Among Mountains and Streams. The overall space design is based on the terraced landscape, creating a three dimensional migratory garden tour route. The flying rainbow corridor bridge, the flowing waterfall landscape wall, and the layers of woodland scenery spreading out, jointly create a resort residence that feels like walking through the woods into a painting.
