Tiger Club

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

The spatial vocabulary deployed in Guoliang Du's Tiger Club activates deep archetypal associations with sacred and ceremonial gathering, where the elongated processional format echoes the nave of ecclesiastical architecture and the great halls of ancestral feasting traditions, establishing a symbolic framework of communal ritual and significant assembly. The biomorphic ceiling elements may be interpreted as contemporary translations of the torchière or cresset, ancient fire-bearing vessels that symbolized illumination both literal and metaphorical, their organic rising forms suggesting growth, aspiration, and the vital energy that animates gathering spaces. The bilateral symmetry of the twin banquet tables creates a visual allegory of balance and partnership, the central void between them functioning as threshold space where individual trajectories might converge. Transparent seating carries rich symbolic resonance, suggesting presence without weight, participation without imposition, a contemporary rendering of the ghost or spirit chair that acknowledges absent members while welcoming living guests. The chromatic progression from luminous ivory ceiling through warm amber middle register to profound dark floor enacts a vertical cosmology moving from celestial light through earthly warmth to grounded foundation. Candlelight as recurring motif invokes traditions of vigil, celebration, and sacred time set apart from ordinary illumination, while the ornate candelabra reference the ritual objects of formal ceremony across cultures. The mezzanine balcony terminus functions as symbolic culmination point, an elevated station suggesting hierarchy, oversight, or the honored position toward which the processional journey leads. Arched apertures draped in rich textiles activate threshold symbolism, marking transitions between zones while their sumptuous materiality signals abundance and hospitality, the generosity of the host made visible in environmental luxury.

Opened by the romantic door of Italian style, guided by the transition of light, it undergoes the beautiful sedimentation of Chinese style, until it becomes light and soft, and also points to the exploration path from the outside to the inside. Along the path, the eye encounters the resonance of details and beauty. The space is overlaid with multiple styles of beauty, highlighting the quality of their respective shapes and colors, allowing the vitality of the space to continue with every appearance of light.
