Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025
Chen Xin's Brilliance Public Artwork operates within rich symbolic territories where water, organic form, and reflective surface converge to create meaning structures that resonate across multiple cultural registers. The biomorphic sculptural masses emerging from dark waters may evoke creation mythology, suggesting primordial landmasses rising from cosmic oceans or the first mountains that established order within formless void, their smooth continuous surfaces implying a world still in process of becoming, not yet hardened into final form. The celadon coloration carries profound significance within East Asian aesthetic traditions, historically associated with jade and its attendant meanings of virtue, immortality, and spiritual refinement, while the gradient into chartreuse and gold suggests alchemical transformation, the base becoming precious through subtle transmutation. Water functions as universal symbol of the unconscious, of purification, of life's source and terminus, the dark reflective pool here serving as mirror of the heavens while simultaneously suggesting unfathomable depths below the surface where submerged lights glow like scattered stars or the eyes of benevolent spirits watching from another realm. The triadic arrangement of sculptural forms activates numerical symbolism of dynamic balance and creative synthesis, while their asymmetric distribution follows organic rather than geometric logic, suggesting growth patterns found in nature rather than imposed human order. Vertical chrome columns introduce the axis mundi, the world pillar connecting earthly and celestial realms, their mirror surfaces multiplying and fragmenting reality in ways that question the stability of perception itself. The interpenetration of natural and artificial, organic sculpture and manufactured steel, cultivated garden and pristine water, creates productive tension between wilderness and cultivation, spontaneity and design, suggesting that beauty emerges precisely at the threshold where human intention meets natural form.
Brilliance merges Lingnan culture with copper art, featuring eight copper fish that symbolize prosperity and elegance in one Pengrui's pool. It enriches the artwork's level and offers a unique perspective, reflecting Guangzhou's leisurely lifestyle. The piece seamlessly integrates traditional culture with modern design, embodying the project's themes of leisure and harmony.
