Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
The symbolic architecture of Yetong Xin and Muwen Li's Nomad Animation activates archetypal resonances surrounding humanity's eternal negotiation between wandering and dwelling, between technological aspiration and natural belonging. The vessel's hovering position—suspended between earth and sky without apparent means of support—evokes traditional imagery of spiritual transcendence and liberation from terrestrial constraints, recalling flying ships from mythological traditions worldwide that transport heroes between realms or carry souls toward celestial destinations. The Voronoi lattice patterns perforating the vessel's surfaces encode meanings of organic growth and cellular life translated into constructed form, suggesting that technology might emerge from rather than oppose natural principles—a reconciliation of the mechanical and biological that resonates with contemporary ecological consciousness. The chromatic dominance of cerulean and Prussian blue establishes emotional territories of contemplation, infinity, and spiritual depth, while the warm sienna and ochre earth tones ground the composition in material reality and geological time, creating productive tension between transcendent aspiration and embodied presence. The angular white projections sweeping upward and outward may be interpreted as wings, sails, or antennae—each reading activating different symbolic registers of flight, navigation, or communication with unseen forces. The aerial perspective positions viewers as witnesses to a threshold moment, observing passage across liminal space between departure and arrival. The scattered clouds function as traditional threshold markers, veils between visible and invisible realms. The landscape below, rendered in colors suggesting both water and mineral earth, evokes primordial origins while the vessel above proposes technological futures—the composition thus spanning temporal as well as spatial distances, inviting meditation upon humanity's journey from elemental beginnings toward imagined tomorrows.
The mechanical design in the video combines a mechanical structure with natural materials, moving away from the typical use of metal. This approach represents a future city that values nature, aiming for harmony between humans and the environment. The design avoids the coldness of traditional machinery, bringing a sense of vitality that engages the audience and enhances their immersive experience. The seamless blend of organic and mechanical elements evokes a feeling of balance, inviting viewers into a world where technology and nature coexist in perfect harmony.
