Mirabilis Bar and Dusk Lounges and Bars

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Within Lau Chun Hoong's Mirabilis Bar and Dusk Lounges and Bars, the suspended metallic flora functions as a contemporary interpretation of the archetypal celestial garden, a symbolic threshold between terrestrial reality and imagined paradises that recurs across cultures from Babylonian hanging gardens to enchanted groves of folklore. The perforated materiality of the sculptural petals encodes multiple layers of meaning: the lattice structure suggests permeable boundaries between realms, the transmission of light through matter as metaphor for spiritual illumination, and the industrial sublime where technological craft achieves aesthetic transcendence. Blue chromatic dominance in the overhead installation carries associations with twilight liminality, the threshold hour when day transforms to night and ordinary perception opens to wonder. The descending filaments evoke jellyfish tendrils, weeping willow branches, or fiber optic data streams, suggesting organic-technological hybridity appropriate to contemporary existence where natural and artificial increasingly interpenetrate. The curved bar form below embodies archetypal symbolism of the hearth or gathering circle, the primordial human configuration for communal congregation around light and sustenance. Warm amber underlighting references fire's ancestral role as center of social bonding. The vertical integration of living greenery speaks to contemporary biophilic yearning, the symbolic reconciliation of built environment with natural growth. The tripartite spatial structure, sculptural canopy above, service zone at middle, and seated guests below, may evoke cosmological ordering principles where celestial, terrestrial, and human realms achieve harmonious alignment. This environment ultimately functions as a contemporary temple of social ritual, where the cultivation of wonder serves as invitation to presence and connection.

Mount Faber Leisure tasked the design team to amplify the popularity of hilltop dining destination, Dusk Restaurant and Bar through the introduction adjective of Iconic. Such initiation would come with a brand new look and feel to the premise (with its stunning seafront and city view) for both the dining and cocktail experience. It is paramount to showcase an expanded professional kitchen with an elevated menu and develop an exclusive hilltop members-only Cigar Room.
