Crochet Floor Lamp

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Danilin's luminous loop formation activates rich symbolic registers rooted in craft heritage and universal geometric archetypes. The continuous, unbroken line traced by the illuminated element evokes the ouroboros motif, the eternal cycle of creation and return, while simultaneously referencing the meditative, rhythmic movements of traditional textile craft suggested by the work's title. The paisley-like silhouette carries layered cultural associations: historically derived from the boteh or buta motif originating in ancient textile traditions, this teardrop-shaped form traditionally symbolizes fertility, eternity, and the flame of Zoroastrian spirituality, here rendered in actual light rather than woven thread. The tripod base participates in established iconographic traditions of stability and support, while its splayed geometry creates implied triangular forms associated with aspiration and dynamic equilibrium. The warm brass materiality carries connotations of value, permanence, and domestic warmth, linking contemporary production to historical decorative arts traditions where gilded elements signified refinement and taste. Chromatically, the warm white illumination against the deep brown velvet backdrop creates a value contrast that may evoke candlelit interiors of pre-electric eras, suggesting continuity between ancestral domestic rituals of light-making and contemporary technological solutions. The loop's crossing of its own path creates a visual knot, traditionally symbolic of binding, connection, and the interweaving of disparate elements into unified whole. The overall composition, with its theatrical presentation against gathered drapery, participates in still life conventions of displaying precious objects for contemplation, inviting viewers to consider the lamp as a contemporary cabinet curiosity where technology and craft tradition achieve harmonious synthesis.

The idea of the collection is to combine the traditions of ancient crafts with modern technology. This floor lamp combines knitting, which is one of the oldest types of arts and crafts, with innovations in light emitting diodes. The metal construction of the lamp resembles the interweaving of spokes during the knitting process, and the luminous flexible cord resembles woolen threads. When designing this collection, special attention was paid to the shape of the luminous cord so that it had the shape of an oval. This approach made it possible to create a floor lamp of a unique shape.
