Pavilion Large Scale Development

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

The architectural symbolism embedded within Dome+Partners's Pavilion Large Scale Development communicates through a sophisticated vocabulary of spatial relationships, material choices, and geometric configurations that together construct meaning around themes of aspiration, community, nature integration, and contemporary luxury. The vertical ascent of the four towers embodies archetypal associations with human ambition and transcendence, their glass surfaces functioning as mediating membranes between interior sanctuary and exterior environment, creating transparency that traditionally symbolizes openness, honesty, and connection to the larger world. The central paired towers linked by the curvilinear sky bridge introduce potent symbolic content around union and relationship, the bridge functioning as both literal connector and metaphorical gesture toward community, collaboration, and the joining of distinct entities into harmonious whole. The organic flowing forms of this connecting element contrast meaningfully with the predominantly rectilinear tower geometries, suggesting the integration of rational order with natural organic principles that characterizes biophilic design philosophy. The pyramidal pavilion rising from the water feature activates ancient symbolic associations with stability, aspiration, and sacred geometry, the pyramid being among the most enduring architectural archetypes across human cultures, representing the meeting of earth and sky, material and spiritual realms. Water throughout the composition carries archetypal significance as purifying element, mirror of consciousness, and symbol of abundance and life, while the extensive palm trees and tropical vegetation evoke paradise imagery and the garden archetype representing human cultivation of nature into harmonious designed environment. The blue glass surfaces encode associations with sky, water, clarity, and calm, while the verdant green vegetated terraces communicate vitality, growth, and ecological consciousness. The overall spatial configuration, with its central gathering space surrounded by ascending towers, echoes ancient patterns of community organization around sacred or civic centers, updated through contemporary formal languages to address contemporary aspirations for integrated urban living.

The Pavilion project is poised to set new standards for architecture in Erbil. The design team created functional and calming spaces using eco-friendly materials and sustainable practices. The project includes a beautiful lagoon and social spaces, fostering community interaction and engagement, alongside needed residential areas. The design reflects local culture and international standards. Large, open spaces let in natural light and fresh air, while strategically placed greenery enhances well-being. Energy-efficient systems and renewable sources minimize the environmental impact.
