The spiral form at the heart of this architectural composition carries profound symbolic resonance across multiple cultural traditions, evoking the universal archetype of the labyrinth as meditative journey wherein the path inward represents psychological and spiritual transformation, the central oculus functions as an axis mundi connecting earth and sky, interior and exterior, human shelter and cosmic expanse in traditions spanning from Roman oculi to indigenous ceremonial structures oriented toward celestial observation, the three smaller circular apertures arranged diagonally may reference trinitarian symbolism or astronomical alignments that position the building within larger cosmic rhythms, the elliptical plan itself carries associations with orbital paths and the cyclic nature of seasons particularly relevant in northern latitudes where the building appears sited, the chromatic dialogue between the cool white exterior harmonizing with snow and the warm amber base suggests the archetypal opposition and unity of fire and ice, warmth and cold, sanctuary and wilderness that structures human experience of shelter, the spiral descent of the roof plane embodies the golden ratio and Fibonacci sequences observable throughout nature from nautilus shells to unfurling ferns to spiral galaxies, suggesting the building participates in fundamental organizational principles of the cosmos, the frost-laden trees surrounding the structure function as threshold guardians marking the transition from profane exterior to sacred interior space, their crystalline transformation by winter suggesting the alchemical processes of purification and transformation associated with wellness rituals, the human figures approaching along the pathway enact the archetypal journey toward sanctuary and renewal, their small scale against the building emphasizing the protective embrace the architecture offers, compositionally the aerial viewpoint positions the viewer as celestial observer gazing down upon a mandala-like form that invites contemplation of wholeness, cycles, and the eternal return characteristic of spa and wellness traditions seeking to restore balance between body, mind, and environment.

The Arctic Aurora is a sustainable spa, bathhouse, and guest retreat nestled in Bergen's mineral-rich countryside. Drawing inspiration from the Arctic aurora, the design channels the surrounding landscape into a tranquil inner sanctuary through its fluid, flowing form. Anchored by a simple circular geometry that enables water to move freely throughout the building, the program gradually shifts from public to private functions.
