Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
Arkiteam Architecture's Sales Office employs a sophisticated symbolic vocabulary that positions commercial architecture as cultural statement, the monumental curved stone element functioning as an archetypal gateway or threshold marker that draws upon millennia of architectural tradition wherein the arch represents passage, transition, and ceremonial entry into significant space. The material choices encode specific cultural and aspirational messages: travertine and limestone carry associations with classical Mediterranean civilization, suggesting permanence, cultural refinement, and connection to enduring architectural traditions stretching from ancient temples to Renaissance palaces. The Italian cypress trees, traditionally associated with sacred groves, cemeteries, and villa landscapes throughout the Mediterranean basin, function as vegetal sentinels marking the threshold while encoding associations with eternity, aspiration, and cultivated nature. The transparency of the glass envelope communicates contemporary values of openness, honesty, and accessibility, dematerializing the boundary between commercial enterprise and public realm in a gesture of invitation and welcome. The vertical timber battens reference both Japanese machiya screening traditions and Mediterranean pergola construction, encoding cross-cultural sophistication while providing practical solar mediation. The arched portal visible through the glass establishes nested threshold symbolism, promising progressive revelation and spatial sequence within, a journey of discovery that transforms commercial transaction into experiential narrative. The geometric dialogue between curve and orthogonal, between mass and void, between warm and cool materials, creates compositional tension that holds viewer attention and suggests dynamic equilibrium, encoding values of balance, resolution, and sophisticated design thinking. The motion-blurred vehicle grounds the composition in contemporary urban life while its transient presence contrasts with the building's aspirational permanence, encoding temporal juxtaposition between the ephemeral and the enduring.
Located in Istanbul’s old quarter, the Rams City Sales Office features a design that draws inspiration from the area’s architectural traditions. The use of arches and a domed roof reflects familiar influences, while a single tree at the entrance introduces a natural element. The concrete and steel facade follows a straightforward and durable approach, creating a practical space that acknowledges the past while accommodating present needs. Inside, the layout is designed to offer a welcoming and functional environment for visitors.
