Misoohi Resort Hotel

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

The sculptural gateway of LINXIN LIU's Misoohi Resort Hotel activates profound archetypal symbolism through its ascending organic forms, which may be interpreted as evoking the universal threshold archetype that marks passage between ordinary and sacred realms across countless cultural traditions. The unfurling petal-like configuration suggests botanical metaphors of growth, blossoming, and natural unfolding, potentially resonating with Eastern philosophical concepts of organic emergence and the harmony between human creation and natural principles. The pointed arch vocabulary employed throughout the facade carries rich associations within architectural symbolism, traditionally encoding aspiration toward the transcendent, the upward reach of human spirit, and the creation of sanctuary space distinguished from mundane exterior realms. The chromatic choice of pristine white operates within multiple symbolic registers: purity, clarity, openness, and in many traditions, the void or potential from which all forms emerge, suggesting the hotel as a space of renewal and possibility. The warm amber illumination tracing architectural contours introduces solar and fire symbolism, traditionally associated with welcome, hearth, hospitality, and the transformative warmth of sanctuary against the cooling external world represented by the deepening blue twilight. The bilateral symmetry underlying the composition, subtly disrupted by the asymmetrical gateway placement, may encode concepts of cosmic order balanced against dynamic vitality, suggesting stability that remains responsive rather than rigid. The threshold position of the entrance, emphasized through dramatic sculptural articulation, marks what anthropologists recognize as liminal space, the betwixt-and-between zone where transformation becomes possible, where the guest transitions from traveler to honored recipient of hospitality. The distant birds in flight could evoke freedom, journey, and the wandering spirit that seeks temporary rest, while the forested hillside represents the natural realm from which the sanctuary architecture emerges and with which it maintains dialogue. The numerical repetition of arches establishes visual rhythm suggesting order, abundance, and the careful orchestration of experience that distinguishes considered hospitality from mere accommodation.

Misoohi is located in Tangkou Town at the foot of Mount Huang, a major tourist destination. Covering 7 acres with 4,500 square meters of built-up area, it offers a retreat from city life. The striking white facade provides great photo opportunities. With no fixed routines, guests experience surprises at every turn. Designed to contrast with local Huizhou architecture, Misoohi redefines modern tourism by linking with Mount Huang, becoming a must-visit and contributing to local tourism development.
