Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
Vahid Mirzaei's commemorative poster operates through a sophisticated visual language where abstracted human figures become carriers of profound philosophical meaning, the cascading arrangement suggesting both the transience of individual existence and the continuity of human experience across generations. The choice of deep ultramarine blue carries rich symbolic associations: celestial infinity, intellectual depth, spiritual contemplation, and the vast expanses of time that separate contemporary viewers from historical figures while simultaneously connecting them through shared human concerns. The white line work against this cosmic blue field creates figures that seem to glow with inner luminosity, perhaps suggesting the illumination of wisdom or the persistence of cultural memory that outlives physical form. The interlocking quality of the figure arrangement speaks to interconnection and community, each individual form incomplete in isolation yet participating in a larger pattern of meaning when viewed collectively. The diagonal cascading movement may evoke multiple archetypal patterns: falling leaves suggesting autumnal cycles of change, souls ascending or descending through cosmic space, or the flow of generations across time. The geometric reduction of human forms to essential circles and curves connects to universal pictographic traditions while maintaining warmth through the organic quality of curved rather than angular lines. The number of figures, too numerous to easily count, suggests multiplicity and the countless individuals who have contemplated similar questions across centuries. The typographic elements establish textual anchors that ground the visual meditation in specific cultural and temporal coordinates while the quotation invites viewers into philosophical reflection. The gradient luminosity at the composition's center creates a focal point that may suggest sources of wisdom, enlightenment, or enduring truth around which human figures gather and from which they disperse, participating in eternal cycles of learning and transformation.
To commemorate the 975th birth anniversary of Omar Khayyam, this project presents urban posters featuring his timeless poetry. The designs integrate Persian typography with English translations in the upper left, bringing his philosophical reflections to public spaces such as metro stations, buses, and city streets, making his wisdom accessible to all and fostering a cultural dialogue between past and present.
