Spatial symbolism within Gabriela Casagrande's Sunrise Apartment operates through an architectural vocabulary of threshold, sanctuary, and light as transformative presence, where vertical timber columns function as symbolic guardians demarcating protected interior space from the luminous beyond suggested by the glowing window plane. The material palette carries embedded cultural meanings: blonde wood traditionally connotes naturalness, warmth, and connection to organic life cycles, while its vertical orientation evokes growth, aspiration, and the archetypal tree or forest that provides shelter and orientation in countless cultural traditions. The quartet of suspended spherical luminaires may suggest celestial bodies, their clustered arrangement at varying heights evoking planetary groupings or the symbolic four directions, four seasons, or four elements that organize cosmological thinking across diverse traditions, while their organic pleated forms reference both Eastern paper lantern traditions associated with celebration and illumination of understanding, and contemporary craft values emphasizing handwork and natural materials. The curved, biomorphic furniture silhouettes encode associations with organic life, maternal embrace, and the protective enclosure of natural forms such as shells, nests, or cupped hands, offering counterpoint to the rectilinear architectural elements and suggesting a symbolic dialogue between culture represented by geometry and nature represented by organic curve. The central luminous window, veiled yet radiant, functions as a light-screen suggesting the liminal threshold between interior sanctuary and exterior world, between domestic haven and cosmic expanse, potentially evoking the spiritual symbolism of light as knowledge, hope, or divine presence found across religious and philosophical traditions. The warm cream and honey chromatic envelope suggests associations with nourishment, comfort, natural substances like milk, honey, and sand that carry archetypal resonance with sustenance and earthly abundance. Compositionally, the symmetrical framing with asymmetrical interior arrangement suggests ordered cosmos containing organic variety, a philosophical position valuing both structure and natural spontaneity that characterizes much contemporary design thinking about human flourishing within built environments.
The Sunrise Apartment embraces minimalism and natural light to create a serene and functional living space. Located in Curitiba, Brazil, it offers a privileged view of Barigui Park and the city skyline, seamlessly integrating interior and exterior. The project prioritizes natural materials, soft tones, and an open layout that enhances well being. Custom designed pieces, such as the gourmet table and the Dolomite Armchair, reinforce its unique identity. By balancing contemporary Brazilian design with essentialist principles, the project delivers a timeless and refined living experience.
