Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
The spatial vocabulary of GOOD PLACE's Phoenix Kanri Office Interiors operates through a sophisticated symbolic dialogue between elemental materiality and refined craftsmanship, wherein volcanic stone surfaces evoke primordial geological forces while gold metallic elements suggest alchemical transformation and enduring value. The ceiling's intersecting linear geometry may reference traditional lattice screens found across various cultural traditions, structures that historically mediated between interior sanctuary and exterior world, between private contemplation and public engagement. The tripartite wall composition echoes classical architectural organization, the flanking stone panels functioning as symbolic sentinels while the central illuminated niche creates a focal point suggesting sacred or treasured display, transforming functional shelving into quasi-altar or ceremonial presentation. The textured stone surface carries archetypal weight, suggesting permanence, geological time, and connection to earth materials that predate human construction by millennia, while its processed form acknowledges human agency in shaping natural materials. Gold chromatic presence throughout activates traditional associations with solar energy, divine light, prosperity, and refined value across numerous cultural frameworks. The biomorphic amber glass lamp introduces organic symbolism, its floral unfurling suggesting growth, vitality, and natural beauty as counterpoint to mineral and metallic elements, potentially referencing the phoenix mythology implied in the design's name through its flame-like amber luminosity. The spatial threshold created between rough exterior-suggesting stone and warmer interior wooden surfaces may symbolize the liminal crossing between public and private realms that reception spaces traditionally negotiate. The descending chandelier functions as contemporary candelabrum, its vertical illuminated elements suggesting ascending light or ritual candles, while its geometric brass framework domesticates this luminous presence within modernist formal language.
The design was developed based on the client's company name, Phoenix, and was inspired by the concept of Renaissance, with the aim of fostering corporate and cultural revitalization. In light of Phoenix's expertise in real estate, it seems prudent to incorporate natural materials, such as stones and wood, into every detail. The ceiling design has been meticulously crafted to embody the company's image, characterized by a heavy and substantial aesthetic. The railing of the atrium comprises three layers of laminated glass, masterfully crafted to create a sense of depth and dimensionality.
