Stacked Crystal Form Office and Factory

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025

Architectural symbolism embedded within Nobuaki Miyashita's Stacked Crystal Form Office and Factory operates through the language of crystalline geometry and stratified accumulation, potentially encoding meanings related to growth, transparency, and the elevation of industrial enterprise toward aspirational heights. The stepped tower configuration may evoke archetypal imagery of ascent and achievement, each cantilevered floor plate suggesting progressive stages of development or layers of organizational accomplishment building upon foundations below. The crystalline formal vocabulary, with its faceted projections and precise geometric articulation, traditionally carries associations of clarity, purity, and the transformation of raw materials into refined states, perhaps functioning as visual metaphor for manufacturing processes that convert base inputs into valuable outputs. The horizontal banding that dominates the facade treatment could be interpreted through the lens of geological stratification, suggesting accumulated time and the patient layering of effort that creates enduring structures. White and silver chromatic choices carry cultural resonances of technological advancement, cleanliness, and forward-thinking enterprise, while the transparent ground-level treatment may symbolize organizational openness and accessibility. The contrast between the massive horizontal factory volumes and the ascending tower element potentially encodes a dialogue between grounded production and aspirational administration, the physical and the conceptual united within singular architectural expression. The warm amber threshold illumination at the entrance functions as symbolic welcome, a hearth-like element suggesting human warmth within technological precision. Young trees planted in orderly arrangement may represent investment in future growth and environmental stewardship, their organic forms providing necessary counterpoint to architectural geometry. The cantilevered projections themselves could be read as gestures of confidence and forward momentum, the building literally reaching outward and upward beyond its structural foundations in symbolic expression of ambition and innovation.

This project establishes a smart factory integrating headquarters and plant functions adjacent to the existing research facility. Inspired by stacked crystal chips, the design symbolizes Daishinku's products in architectural form. This motif extends across the exterior and interior, creating an open, continuous workspace that embodies the company's identity while enhancing connectivity. The lighting plan reflects the angles of crystal cutting, integrating this distinctive feature into the spatial design to create a dynamic and functional environment.
