Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025
The packaging design operates as a sophisticated visual communication system where the editorial broadsheet format itself functions as a primary symbolic carrier, evoking associations with journalism, documentation, archival preservation, and authoritative information delivery, cultural resonances that transfer meaningfully to the dried fruit product by suggesting transparency in sourcing, educational mission, substantive depth beyond superficial marketing, and intellectual seriousness about product heritage and quality credentials, positioning the brand within discourse communities that value knowledge, authenticity, and informed consumption. The chromatic symbolism demonstrates intentional restraint, with the predominantly achromatic palette of blacks, grays, and white suggesting sophistication, timelessness, documentary precision, and understated confidence that resists garish attention-seeking, while the strategic deployment of warm coral-orange tones carries multiple symbolic dimensions including the suggestion of natural fruit flesh or sunset warmth, the vitality and life-force of growing things, celebratory energy appropriate to gift-giving or special occasion consumption, and cultural associations with auspicious occasions and prosperity in certain visual traditions, this chromatic accent functioning as symbolic punctuation that energizes the composition without overwhelming its documentary character. The illustrative motifs carry dense iconographic significance, particularly the ancient gnarled tree rendered with such careful linear precision, which functions as a potent symbol of deep time, agricultural heritage extending across generations or centuries, rootedness in specific terroir and ecological conditions, survival and persistence through seasonal cycles and climatic challenges, the wisdom of age, and the connection between present consumption and vast temporal depth of cultivation tradition, this arboreal image inviting meditation on continuity, patience, natural process, and the long view that contrasts with contemporary speed and disposability. The ceramic vessel illustration similarly activates symbolic associations with craft tradition, handmade production values, cultural heritage preservation, domestic ritual and preparation methods passed through generations, the transformation of raw materials through human skill and patience, and the elevation of simple foods through appropriate vessels and mindful presentation, suggesting that this product participates in or honors venerable culinary traditions rather than representing mere commercial commodity. The newspaper format's modular grid structure itself carries symbolic weight, suggesting systematic organization, rational information hierarchy, democratic accessibility of knowledge, transparency in communication, and the Enlightenment ideal that informed consumers make better choices, positioning the brand as educator and transparent partner rather than manipulative marketer, a stance that builds trust and positions the product for thoughtful rather than impulsive consumption. The bilingual textual integration symbolizes cross-cultural bridge-building, global-local negotiations, respect for heritage language and culture while engaging international markets, and sophistication in navigating multiple audience contexts, suggesting a brand identity comfortable moving between traditional and contemporary, local and global, heritage and innovation. The typographic hierarchy itself functions symbolically, with bold headlines commanding attention and orienting readers suggesting confidence and clear communication, extensive body copy demonstrating informational generosity and respect for consumer intelligence, and the interplay between scales suggesting layered complexity that rewards different levels of engagement from quick scanning to deep reading, this typographic architecture metaphorically mirroring the product itself which might be consumed casually or savored with full awareness of its cultural and agricultural context, and the overall symbolic system positioning dried fruit not as mundane snack food but as carrier of cultural heritage, agricultural craft, seasonal wisdom, and mindful consumption worthy of intellectual and aesthetic attention.
Inspired by ancient wild longan trees, this design blends Eastern heritage with modern sustainability. The Heaven-Earth box showcases gold-foiled tree rings and Loong scale patterns, with engraved Twin Loong motifs. Inside, a vintage craft poster and Song Dynasty teacup pair with 4 reusable acrylic jars. By reimagining heritage elements like Celadon ceramics and Loong symbolism into modular reusable systems, the packaging balances aesthetics with circular design principles.
