Gronych + Dollega Architekten's private residence operates as a complex symbolic narrative exploring tensions between terrestrial anchoring and aerial aspiration, protective enclosure and dynamic outward gesture, permanence and transformation over time. The cantilevered concrete prow carries archetypal resonance with vessel imagery, suggesting voyage, threshold crossing, and the dwelling as ship navigating through temporal currents while providing safe harbor for its inhabitants. This maritime metaphor extends through the vertical mast element that rises like rigging against the sky, positioning the residence within symbolic traditions that associate the house with both nest and vessel, grounded sanctuary and mobile possibility. The triangular geometry of the primary projection activates associations with directionality, aspiration, and forward movement, its sharp leading edge pointing toward horizons beyond the frame while the sheltered space beneath suggests protective embrace. Material choices encode philosophical positions regarding authenticity and temporal beauty: the corten steel surfaces, with their actively oxidizing patina, embody acceptance of weathering and aging as generative processes rather than deterioration, aligning with aesthetic traditions that find beauty in the marks of time. The curvilinear pathway functions as symbolic processional approach, its sinuous form slowing movement and inducing contemplation before threshold crossing, drawing upon landscape traditions that understand arrival as ritual transformation. The contrast between angular concrete mass and cylindrical upper volume suggests dialogue between rational geometry and organic form, perhaps encoding beliefs about the relationship between human intervention and natural process. Young deciduous trees planted within the composition introduce cyclical symbolism, their seasonal transformations marking time against the apparent permanence of built structure, while dark volcanic aggregate grounds the composition in elemental earthiness.
The shape of the building is meant to imitate an extract of a mine. The inside of the residence revolves around the living room, which measures 6 meters in height and is divided by a gallery layer. An open and tense spatial structure is being formed hereby. The frontal terrace plane operates like a stage set and creates more depth within the room.
