FENG CHENG's architectural composition encodes profound symbolic narratives through its orchestration of archetypal spatial experiences, the elongated corridor functioning as a universal threshold archetype representing transformation and passage between states of being, the journey from exterior exposure to interior sanctuary, from public realm to private refuge, the one-point perspective creates visual gravity pulling toward the luminous destination, embodying hope and welcome as fundamental human yearnings, winter-bare trees serve as traditional symbols of dormancy preceding renewal, their skeletal forms suggesting both the dignity of endurance and the promise of spring regeneration, the upward-reaching branches evoke aspiration and connection between earthly and celestial realms, while evergreen topiary represents eternal continuity and the persistence of life force through seasonal change, the chromatic progression from cool twilight blues through neutral whites to warm amber lighting traces a thermal and emotional journey from contemplative stillness toward warmth and gathering, numerologically the singular axial path suggests unity of purpose and directed intention while paired trees and repeated lighting elements establish rhythm and measured progression, the geometric dialogue between rectilinear architecture and organic landscape forms encodes complementary principles of order and nature, built environment and wild growth achieving balance, the liminal blue hour timing captures a threshold moment between day and night that mirrors the spatial threshold between outside and inside, amplifying the transformative potential of the passage, ground-level lighting positioned along the path suggests guidance and safe passage through darkness, archetypal wayfinding symbols offering reassurance to the traveler, collectively these elements construct a narrative of welcoming arrival, mindful transition, and the architecture of hospitality as spiritual practice
The project was designed by UCGD, commissioned by VANKE. And this is VANKE’s first project to implement the standardized module design. The design of the building focuses on making a positive contribution to the surroundings.Because of the narrow site, the project was to create natural surroundings of the building and keep connection in-between. Due to referencing Chinese garden, the walls give the project its own character, which not only lowed the impact of messy environment, but also create many winding paths and framed beautiful spaces.
