Mirror Bridge Studio

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2020

Liu Jinrui's Studio with Mirror Bridge Studio operates as a profound spatial treatise on reflection, infinity, and the dissolution of architectural boundaries through material transformation. The dominant mirrored ceiling element functions symbolically as a portal between realms, with its liquid-like surface evoking primordial associations with water, sky, and cosmic fluidity that have carried mystical significance across cultures throughout human history. The undulating organic form suggests natural phenomena such as waves, clouds, or geological formations, positioning the workspace within nature's continuum rather than separate from it, a gesture toward biophilic philosophy that recognizes human wellbeing's connection to natural patterns. The chromatic choice of silver and chrome carries archetypal associations with lunar energy, intuition, and reflective consciousness, qualities traditionally linked to creative insight and imaginative vision. The strategic introduction of green botanical elements activates symbolism of growth, renewal, and vital life force, their multiplication through reflection suggesting abundance and infinite potential. The spatial configuration creates threshold conditions where the boundary between actual space and reflected space becomes indeterminate, inviting contemplation of philosophical questions regarding perception and reality. The geometric tension between organic ceiling curves and orthogonal furnishings below encodes a productive dialogue between rational structure and creative fluidity, suggesting that optimal creative environments balance these complementary forces. The descending curve that approaches human scale creates an intimate canopy effect, evoking archetypal shelter and protection while simultaneously opening perception toward infinite expansion. The pristine white environmental palette functions as symbolic tabula rasa, suggesting openness to possibility and the clarity required for innovative thinking, while the reflective surfaces transform occupants into active participants within an ever-changing visual composition.

Mirror bridge brings both lightness and vitality into the once dark and narrow flat, invoking a feeling of dream and fantasy. The twisted metal surface allows the light to be reflected multiple times indoors, increasing the illumination as well as creating a magic time-tunnel experience. The renovation made significant improvements in lighting, ventilation, and sight. The form of the ground-supported portion and the tension of its shape partially reduced the difficulty of construction.
