Central Yosemite Leisure Club

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020

The spatial and symbolic architecture of LXL INTERIOR DESIGN's Leisure Club operates through layered systems of meaning that draw upon cross-cultural traditions of contemplative space, water symbolism, and the phenomenology of reflection. Water throughout human cultural history has served as a primary symbol of purification, renewal, and psychological depth—the mirror-still pool surface here may evoke the concept of the mind in meditation, reflecting reality without distortion when achieving perfect stillness. The bilateral symmetry created through water reflection potentially activates archetypal associations with cosmic order and the integration of opposites, suggesting the union of the conscious and unconscious, the material and spiritual realms. The singular amber lantern positioned at the left third follows traditions of the sacred lamp found across Eastern and Western spiritual contexts—a beacon of inner illumination, warmth within contemplative coolness, the eternal flame that guides seekers toward presence. The horizontal louvers filtering exterior light may be understood as a threshold device, mediating between exterior temporal world and interior sanctuary, the screens acting as permeable boundaries that transform harsh daylight into gentle, diffused luminosity suitable for introspection. The bare tree silhouettes visible through these screens suggest the Japanese aesthetic principle of mono no aware, the poignant awareness of impermanence, their skeletal forms evoking cycles of dormancy and renewal. The geometric arrangement of chaise lounges in pairs might reference traditions of communal meditation spaces where individual practice occurs within collective presence. The vertical columns may function as symbolic axis mundi, connecting earthly and celestial realms, their warm metallic surfaces suggesting alchemical transformation. The overall chromatic movement from warm amber through neutral earth tones to cool viridian water potentially maps a journey from active warmth toward receptive coolness, from engagement toward surrender.

Return to the simplicity of life, the sun through the window light and shadow crisscrosses. In order to better to reflect the natural flavor in the overall space, make full use of log design, simple and stylish, humanistic comfort, stress artistic space atmosphere. Oriental charm tone, with a unique spatial mood. This is another expression of the interior, it is natural, pure, variable.
